Q: What got you into this business in the first place?
A: Two professors at the University of Florida played a big part. Dr. Pisani taught Media Planning, Every day for six weeks, I was attentively in class at 8am! Professor Wagner taught Advanced Copywriting and Advanced Graphics and Production, and I can’t even begin to explain how much I learned from her instruction and mentoring. I still have her self-written design textbooks.
Q: Who was a big influence in your career?
A: One of my co-workers at Doner Advertising, Renee Cohen, was a very big influence. I worked as her coordinator for three years and she basically taught me how to negotiate and buy media. I attribute much of my success so far to her.
Q: What’s your favorite sports team?
A: I’m a huge Buccaneers fan. I have a Ronde Barber jersey. I’ve also made it to my league’s fantasy football playoffs the last two years that I’ve played.
Q: What was growing up like for you?
A: Living in England for 12 years, Germany for 1½ years, and then moving to Florida certainly didn’t make it easy. The main problem I had attending a German school was that my grammar wasn’t very good – my knowledge of the language came from my mother raising me bilingually so I hadn’t had an actual class.
Q: What was college like for you?
A: College was busy. I went to the University of Florida and was an active member of a co-ed community service fraternity my first two years. Then I started waiting tables full-time. When I graduated, I decided I wasn’t ready to join the workforce, so I went to graduate school.
Q: What are your favorite internet sites?
A: ESPN, CNN, Facebook, and PerezHilton.
